Get Ready Everybody, Soil Health = Planetary Health and It’s Coming To You

Dear Friends,

I would like to give you a brief update on what I have been up to.  Traveling and sharing.  Learning and revising.  Flying and driving.   Traveling and sharing.  Sleeping and not sleeping.   Traveling and sharing.  Crying and laughing.  Talking and listening. Did I mention traveling and sharing?

This year, 2015 has been a whirlwind of riding the wave of life that goes with being a microherder.  I moved to California last December, by the end of the year I will have spent less than 5 months at home!  This is because you and your communities want to learn about soil health but beyond that, you want to be doing all you can to be a part of what had better go down in history as the decade where humans built soil.  Soil erosion, land loss, and food insecurity will be a thing of the past if we play our cards right.  We have the tools.  We have all of the tools.  Yes, there will always be more to learn and lessons to revise but a solid foundation of land productivity and health is nestled in the triad of balance of organic matter, mineral and biological presence in soil.  We know this.

I have been accepting as many invitations as possible and teaching all that I have learned about soil building practices to assist this vision of building soil humus sail along.  I have been back and forth across America, into Eastern Europe and South Africa and let me say this, BIG THINGS ARE HAPPENING!!!

Hundreds of scientific publications are rolling out about the human biome, soil biome, CO2 and carbon sequestration.  When the information is combined, the vine that ties the pieces together is that the heart of healing begins below your feet, it’s in the earth.  Well, it should be in the earth.

It is time to compensate responsible land management practices taking place in gardening, farming, grazing and ecological restoration.  This is how we are going to do it:

To all of you that have invited me to your homes, schools, conferences, farms and communities, thank you.   May you, your land and communities be blessed with this fall harvest and for the harvests to come.

A sincere thank you is extended to those of you who have made financial and social contributions to the work of the Fair Carbon Exchange.  We are working as smartly as possible and I would have to say that with your assistance, it’s working.

  1. Molly,
I’m an organic farmer in the southeast corner of South Dakota. Half of my farm is planted in organic row crops (160 acres) and the other half I’ve converted from row crops into all pasture land and have an organically certified grass fed, grass finished beef herd grazing it in a cross fenced paddock system where the cross fence is moved daily. I would like to know more about how I might promote carbon sequestration in my operation. Any information you could send my way or information regarding any conferences or informational meetings in my area would be appreciated. I am a member of a farmer group called Verity Farms and they are interested and involved in building soil. I would be interested in hearing from you. Alan Ward, email: mathagman@hotmail .com
